Yummy Sloppy Joes

A sloppy joe is messy, nostalgic comfort food at its absolute finest. Seasoned ground beef simmered in a rich, tangy-sweet tomato sauce that's loaded with savory depth from hints of Worcestershire, garlic, and brown sugar, all piled high on a soft, pillowy hamburger bun that soaks up every last drop of that incredible sauce. The moment you take a bite, it's a glorious, saucy explosion of bold, hearty flavor that somehow manages to taste like home no matter where you eat it. Sure, you'll need extra napkins — but every messy, delicious bite is absolutely worth it.

Scale Recipe:
  • Main Ingredients
  • 2 Tbsp Olive Oil

  • 2 Tbsp butter

  • 2 lb. ground beef

  • 2/3 green bell pepper, chopped

  • 2/3 red bell pepper, chopped

  • 1 large white onion, chopped

  • Sauce Ingredients
  • 2 tsp cloves garlic, minced

  • 2 tbsp tomato paste

  • 1 1/3 cup ketchup

  • 2/3 cup water

  • 2 tbsp Stevia brown sugar substitute

  • 1 tsp yellow mustard

  • 1/2 tsp chili powder

  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

  • 1/2 tsp sea salt

  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

  • 1/4 tsp red pepper flakes

  • dash of hot sauce, to taste

Instructions

1

Add Ketchup, water, Stevia brown sugar substitute, mustard, chili powder, Worcestershire sauce, salt, red pepper flakes, and black pepper together to make the sloppy joe sauce. Stir and set aside.

2

Heat butter and oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, breaking apart as it cooks. Drain fat from the cooked meat.

3

Add onion and bell pepper to same skillet and cook until onions are translucent. Add garlic and cook. Make sure garlic doesn't burn, 30 - 60 seconds.

4

Add browned meat back to the skillet and add tomato paste. Stir to mix.

5

Add sloppy joe sauce from above to the ground beef mixture and stir thoroughly to combine.

6

Cook over MED heat for 20 minutes, until mixture has thickened to your liking. Remove from heat and serve over open faced buns. Top with a touch of mustard for the finishing touch!
